In Bulgaria, the most common natural phenomena are rock formations. Among the most popular are:
- "Belogradchik rocks", which are often called the eighth wonder of the world. They occupy nearly 30 kilometers along the Western Pre-Balkan. Many of the rocks have bizarre shapes and are the subject of a number of legends.
- The "Stone wedding" in the area of the village of Zimzelen (Kardzhali), for example, resembles human figures. It is assumed that it was formed about 40 million years ago as a result of volcanic activity.
- "Melnish pyramids" - one of the most visited places in Bulgaria. With its bizarre shapes, it is believed to be the result of erosion of the clay soil, and according to scientific hypotheses, the area was once a seabed.

# 1 Karadzhov stone
„Karadzhov stone“ is a peak located in the most south - eastern part of "Gradiste" ridge in the Rhodopes with 1448 m above sea level. It si a high rocky plateau with steep cliffs reaching over 100 m in height. The locality is part of the "Sacred Triangle" tourist route: Krastova gora, Karadzhov stone and Belintash. According to archaeologists, it was a sanctuary during the Early Iron Age and Late Antiquity.
Important: If you decide to climb it, be extremely careful! It is very dangerous and unsafe in places!
# 2 The Stone Mushrooms
"Stone mushrooms" are located on the road between Haskovo and Kardzhali. The area has been declared a natural landmark and a habitat for rare birds such as the Egyptian vulture. The rock formations reach a height of 2.5 - 3 meters. The stumps are susceptible to erosion, and the caps are hard because they contain so-called volcanic glass. A legend tells about the origin of the stone mushrooms and the daughters of the coal miner Raduil, who died tragically in this place.
In the Kardzhali region, you can also visit the "Petrified Wedding" near the village of Zemzelen.
# 3 Drilled stone, Beronovo village
The unique rock phenomenon is located in the northeastern outskirts of the village of Beronovo (Sungurlare Municipality). Although it is not such a popular landmark at the national level, according to legend, every sick person who touches it gets well. According to research, there are Egyptian symbols depicted on it related to an ancient sanctuary and priests.
Interesting: The village of Beronovo is named after one of the most famous Bulgarian encyclopedists and revivalists, Dr. Petar Beron. There is also a healing mineral spring in the area of the village.
